DEL MAR PLAZA

A book celebrating legacy, community and impact

Brixton Capital is a private real estate investment firm focused on acquiring, repositioning, and revitalizing commercial and mixed-use properties across the country. Their work at Del Mar Plaza represents one of their most significant and community-facing transformations — a full renovation that reshaped the visitor experience, elevated the architectural presence, and revitalized the coastal gathering space for locals and tourists alike.

INTAKE

Learning the history

I interviewed the Brixton team to understand the history of Del Mar Plaza, the role of early investors, and the evolution of the renovation. I paired those insights with additional online research to ground the book in accurate context and meaningful details.

OUTLINE

Building the framework

The project began with drafting a outline for the book. I mapped the narrative arc, identified key themes Brixton wanted to express, and structured the flow from history, transformation, community impact, then gratitude. This framework ensured the story felt cohesive, intentional, and aligned with the emotional goals of the piece.

EXPLORATION

Curating assets

From there, I sourced imagery that captured the spirit of Del Mar Plaza — from archival photos and renovation documentation to publicly available visuals that showcased the coastal, elevated character of the space. These assets built the visual foundation for the book’s storytelling.

OUTCOMES

Designing the book

With content, context, and imagery in place, I designed the book to reflect the plaza’s upscale coastal environment: clean layouts, refined typography, intentional pacing, and generous white space. The final design balances elegance with warmth, highlighting both the transformation of the plaza and the lasting impact of its 35 early investors.

  • Monica understood how important our early investors were to this project. She guided the creative vision so the book felt like a genuine thank-you to them, and that really came through in the final piece.
